Icicle Hitch
How to tie the Icicle Hitch Knot. The Icicle Hitch is a good knot for connecting to a post when it is desired to either hoist the post vertically or to drag it in a direction parallel to the post. This hitch will hold its place even when holding a substantial load on a smooth surface and even grip a tapered post, hence its name "icicle hitch".

Icicle Hitch Knot Tying Instructions
- Wrap the working end of the rope around the post four times working away from the end.
- Then pass the working line behind the wraps and the standing line and pass it over the post leaving a hanging loop behind the wraps.
- Take the hanging loop by its longest part and pass the loop in front of the standing line on the front side of the post and pass the loop over the end of the post.
- Tighten everything up and pull down on both lines to further tighten the wraps around the post. The wraps will spread out as a load is applied to the standing line.
